SIL Academic Training
Academic training in SIL focuses on preparing people to do quality linguistic fieldwork, literacy and translation.
Greetings from the International Language Program Training Director
One way that SIL International serves minority language communities is through training. We offer training for language development work in partnership with educational institutions around the world. Over the last 70 years, over 15,000 people have been trained through these cooperative programs.
Along with a strong academic foundation, students in these programs gain a practical understanding of how languages work. This combination provides a good start for learning or analyzing any language in the world. SIL instructors bring a wide range of field experience to the classroom, and are there to discuss personal aspects of fieldwork as well.
I invite you to apply to one of these training programs. If you are planning a career in linguistics, translation, literacy or some other area of language and culture, SIL courses can help you in your work. If you aren't certain of your career path but have an interest in peoples, languages and cultures, SIL training will expose you to new possibilities.
