SIL International Media Release
Unicode Versions of Roman, Hebrew, and Greek Fonts Now Available
DALLAS, TX (May 25, 2004) SIL International is pleased to announce the release of updated versions of three popular SIL fonts: Doulos SIL 4.0 (Roman); Ezra SIL 2.0 (Hebrew); and Galatia SIL 2.0 (Greek). All have been encoded according to the Unicode Standard and are available for free download at http://scripts.sil.org.
Doulos SIL: The goal for this product was to provide a single Unicode-based font family that would contain a comprehensive inventory of glyphs needed for almost any Roman- or Cyrillic-based writing system, whether used for phonetic or orthographic needs. In addition, there is provision for other characters and symbols useful to linguists (IPA). This font makes use of state-of-the-art font technologies to support complex typographic issues, such as the need to position arbitrary combinations of base glyphs and diacritics optimally.
This Doulos SIL font is essentially the same design as the SIL Doulos font first released by SIL in 1992. The design has been changed from the original in that it has been scaled down to be a better match with contemporary digital fonts, such as Times New Roman®. This current release is a regular typeface, with no bold or italic version available, and it is encoded according to Unicode 4.0.

Galatia SIL is a Biblical Greek font package from SIL International. The typeface is almost identical to the original SIL Galatia font, but is now encoded according to Unicode 3.1. The Galatia SIL fonts are supplied in Regular and Bold weights.
In addition to the fonts themselves, this package includes a Keyman® keyboard file which simplifies the typing of Biblical Greek text in Windows using a U.S. keyboard.

The Ezra SIL Hebrew package includes two biblical Hebrew fonts in the new Unicode 4.0 encoding. The fonts have improved placement of punctuation and cantillation. The package includes keyboard mappings and suggested conversion routines.
Ezra SIL is the same typeface as SIL Ezra and is fashioned after the square letter forms of the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia. The Ezra SIL fonts are designed to work with Windows 2000/XP and Office 2003.
