Our linguistics training focuses on field-tested procedures and techniques for analyzing unwritten languages.
We offer training in cooperation with universities in various countries of the world. The sets of linguistics courses offered are both theoretical and applied, but with a focus on applied.
Our linguistics training focuses on field-tested procedures and techniques for doing language analysis. Our courses teach the crucial skills needed for learning and describing languages, even those which are unwritten. Skills learned include the recognition and pronunciation of non-English speech sounds, alphabet formation, and descriptions of grammars and systems of meaning. Courses are based upon proven techniques drawn from more than 60 years of research in more than 1400 minority languages around the world.
This training is offered at more than a dozen institutions around the world. See the SIL Training page for details on the courses and the locations.
