Marshall 1989

Summary

A guide to independent language learning in a setting where the language is spoken. Includes steps to take in making "total immersion" work for you--planning, motivation, finding a mentor, techniques for daily learning. Annotated bibliography.

Evaluation

Marshall was with the Peace Corps. His book is based on an adaptation of the language learning cycle idea, for which he does not give Larson and Smalley or the Brewsters much credit. The book is readable and a clearly-organized presentation of the learning cycle method.
