Objectives
 

Here are some objectives for interactional skills for Stage 2 for reading:

 
  • To notice, when reading about interactions between people:

    • Routines for opening and closing different kinds of conversations
    • Topics people discuss with friends and strangers
    • Rules of interaction between men and women
    • Other rules of interaction which apply in common communication situations
  • To recognize the rules of interaction that apply in personal and business letters
Strategies
 

Here are some interactional skills strategies for Stage 2 guidelines for reading:

 
  • Advance organization

    Read as much as you can about social conventions and etiquette in the society, so you will be aware of what to look for.

  • Analysis and comparison

    Look at your analysis of the scripts of social situations of everyday life and how people interact. See to what extent writing reflects what you can observed about face-to-face interaction.

  • Selective attention

    Choose a specific situation, such as greeting a friend you have not seen yet that day, and look for examples of that in what you read.
