Keyman update to the Shoebox Tutorial

February 2002

After the Shoebox Tutorial was written, Keyman 5 superseded Keyman 4. Therefore, please disregard the information about using Keyman 4 and the sample Axininca.kmx keyboard file (pages 122, 125-129).

Keyman 3.2 works on Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows 98. You can use it with either the Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 version of Shoebox. Keyman 3.2 is included on the Shoebox CD-ROM.

Because Keyman 3.2 does not work with Windows 2000, you will need to use Keyman 5 and later for user-defined keyboards on Windows 2000 and later. Please note that Shoebox does not support Unicode, even though Keyman 5 does. You can find more information about Keyman 5 at http://www.tavultesoft.com/keyman

The following table summarizes the options for keyboard layouts with Shoebox:

* Shoebox can automatically switch between keyboards of this type.

To enable automatic keyboard switching in Shoebox, you must install the appropriate version of the program. For Keyman 3.2 keyboards, install the Windows 3.1 version of Shoebox. For built-in Windows keyboards, install Shoebox for Windows 95 and later.
