Getting and Converting the BHS Text

Follow these instructions to obtain the Oxford Text Archive Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia text for use with the SIL Hebrew Font System.

Click here to see a definition of the Michigan-Claremont encoding . If you are downloading the BHS files from Oxford Text Archive, you will be required to use the CC program before the text will work with the SIL Hebrew fonts. It can be downloaded here: Consistent Changes Conversion directions are indexed in the DOC folder of the IL Hebrew Fonts download or here: convert2.pdf.

Getting a copy of the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia in Michigan-Claremont encoding

You can download a copy of the BHS in Michigan-Claremont encoding from the Oxford Text Archive at the following website:

http://ota.ahds.ac.uk/

Go the website above.
Type the word "Biblia" in the Quick Search box and click FIND.
Look for the item which says:

Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia : (Michigan-Claremont text)
Click to put a checkmark by the title. Click "Download Selected Texts". Agree to the terms and conditions.

Under the banner "GZip'ed Tar File", click "Download". Save the file.

You will need a utility like WinZip© (PC) or Stuffit Expander© (Mac) to decompress the file. Follow the directions for conversion found in convert2.pdf. This file is also included in the DOC folder of the SIL Hebrew Fonts download.
