SIL Language Software Disk 5 installation error

Updated Windows Installer

Problem: The software installer, setup.exe, on SIL Language Software Disk 5 Update 2 fails and displays the message:

Explanation: The Setup program running from the CD-ROM does not detect if Windows Installer 2.0 (MSI 2.0) has been updated. This happens, for example, when Windows XP Service Pack 2 is installed.

Solution

1. Click to download the program PatchDisk5.exe.
2. Save it to a convenient location on your hard drive.
   Note: You will need to run this patch each time you want to use Disk 5.
3. Make sure the CD-ROM is in the drive (If the the error message is displayed, click OK.)
4. Run PatchDisk5.exe.

Result: Does exactly the same thing as the regular setup program. The patch program is a substitute for the setup.exe program on the CD, but runs on machines with an updated Windows Installer.
