Serving Language Communities through Linguistics, Literacy and Translation

SIL* is a volunteer, nonprofit organization that has worked in the Philippines since 1953. In cooperation with the Philippines Department of Education, SIL members carry out linguistic research and documentation of Philippine indigenous languages. As appropriate to the language community, SIL also promotes literacy, health, and community development projects among speakers of those languages, as well as translation of materials of high moral value into the vernacular.

Working together for Philippine languages April 26 2016

Bro. Armin Luistro F.S.C.
The Philippines Secretary of Education, Bro. Armin Luistro F.S.C., gave a passionate plea for university decision-makers to each adopt a Philippine language. His reason was based on the value of each language, stating, "The heart and soul of the Filipino can be found in each distinct Philippine language.”

SEALS Annual Meeting 26-28 May 2016

University of the Philippines and SIL Philippines are hosting the 26th Annual Meeting. SEALS26 invites scholars working on Southeast Asian linguistics for this year's meeting in Manila. Below are the dates regarding submission of papers.

  • Deadline of abstracts: 5 January 2016
  • Notification of review: 1 February 2016
