Languages of Benin
Primary language names
Although Benin is a small country of about 7.2 million people, its inhabitants come from more than 50 distinct language communities. These languages are all listed in Ethnologue: Languages of the World. Most of them belong to the Kwa and Gur language families, which in turn are part of the Niger-Congo family of languages.
Due to various factors, a single language might have several names. In the introduction to the Ethnologue, please see the Layout of language entries for information about the use of primary and alternate language names.
